Other than the actual key card with the Product Key number on it, all you're getting is a little cardboard box and a small piece of cardboard with five short steps on how to set up the software (a grand total of about 50 words). This version is not ready for public release. They have gotten rid of normal every day use items such as bullets in excel (cant do it now). You cant right click and use properties to get to wrap text in excel or format the layout in Word. You now are forced to find it on the ribbon limiting your workflow to a specific method. But probably what is most frustrating is that now I can have a 500KB word file and insert a 250 KB png image.so the file should be 750 KB, less than 1 MB. However, the file shoots up to 20MB with a single image.

I called and was told that I was speaking with a representative from Mavericks Solutions Inc., a Third Party Contractor hired by Microsoft. Long story short, the IT technician told me that my IP address had been hacked and that was the reason the Product Key error appeared. I was told my IP address was being used by someone in Denmark who was using it to run a porn site.

A bit in a panic and under the impression that this person was an official contractor for Microsoft (not often I am not talking to someone with an Indian accent now days) I made the mistake of purchasing a protection plan. The technician was seemingly able to install Office.

Now I'm just afraid my computer has been compromised as I started having some suspicions and researching this company in further detail. I contacted Microsoft and they said they have no idea of this third party contractor. I purposely bought this product from Amazon because I figured it would be coming from a reputable company. Microsoft Office gets generally worse over time and this product proves it. With this purchase, we waited in the mail for a cardboard card with a security code to arrive before we could activate. Once activated, the new Word software won't print documents from previous version.

Annoying message persists when old version is opened saying that an update is required even after this software is properly installed. Interface for updated Word software is worse (more difficult and unpleasant to use/navigate) than previous versions. Annoying, inefficient, poorly designed. The only up side to this product is that we have fewer crashes and lost data due to Word and Excel locking up and requiring hard restart. This package came with serious security issues. I ordered the physical key card so I would have it for any future reinstall need.

I don't know if the office.com site was sold or hacked but when I went there, the instructions asked for an email, phone number and the key ID then immediately bounced me to a page saying the key redeemed but there was an issue with my download and to call a number in the 870 (Arkansas) area code. I've never heard of a toll number for a failed install. I called them and got a very unprofessional Indian-sounding guy who sort of mumbled about the issue and when I told him the 'error' code that showed up he said the computer had security compromises and asked its age, etc. I asked if he was from Microsoft and he said he was with Apple Support.

Red flag: why would Apple Support be answering a support call about Microsoft's web site failing to download? Then he did a screen sharing session, which I was very reluctant to do.

His user name was something like 'ssteve' something. No Apple ID or anything. Then he showed me how my MacBook firewall was turned off and couldn't be turned on and the FileVault was also turned off and therefore I had foreign users connected to my notebook. Then came the real red flag: he immediately said he'd sell me a computer 'cleaning' service for $199 and then he could install Office. Unfortunately, Excel for Mac 2016 only uses single-core calc. If you're not using Excel for anything large or much formula calculation, this might not impact you, but if you use large files with a lot of formulas this can grind down any significant data work to a halt.

I had just bought a new iMac, so I wanted to finally get a new version, assuming it would be good for awhile. What concerns me is if I buy a new computer in a few years and there is a newer Word version that I do not want or need, I will not have the ability to load this current version to the new device (how long is 'lifetime' access?). The version I had been previously using was from 2011 and it was fine for my purposes. I used that version a lot, but I no longer need to use Word as often as I am now retired, and also no longer doing the kind of volunteer work that required it. Microsoft tells me my I-cloud email is no longer valid - funny that I'm getting emails to it every day!

They try to get me to set up or give them another one which I have done but it makes no difference. They want to text me a security code to be sure it's me and ask they for my phone number but the space on their web page for the phone number won't let me enter anything. Their emails to me are from a 'no reply' box. I have apparently no way to contact them and the product cannot be installed.
